Words of Wisdom Wednesday

If one dream should fall and break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again. People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are.  The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can’t find them, make them. Don’t be discouraged.  It’s often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock.

Peace & Blessings

Terrific Tuesday

I AM THAT CHICK!

I am that chick that grew up in the Washington Park Projects on Pitt Street.

I am that chick who told God at age eleven “if you allow me to become a grown-up, I promise to never smoke or drink, and I promise to treat my kids well”.

I am that chick who graduated from high school with average grades and knew there was something bigger waiting in the balance.

I am that chick who met a handsome man, got married and had two beautiful babies and promised I would never become a statistic of being a single parent.

I am that chick who allowed her husband to be the “head of the family” as it states in the bible.

I am that chick who walked beside her husband, attended Church and Sunday school on the regular and was proud to know that paying tithes and being obedient means you never have to want for anything.

I am that chick who didn’t want to leave her family and move across the country, but I prayed and asked God for guidance and before long was headed to New Orleans, LA.

I am that chick who loved her mother-in-law and was the only person in the room when she took her last breath.

I am that chick that tried to console her husband during the loss of his first best friend, his mother.

I am that chick who realized there was just nothing she could do to fill the void left by the mother, and the hole in the heart of her husband.

I am that chick who worked full time and attended school (at Delgado Comm. College, NO, LA) at night full time because she was determined to keep the family together.

I am that chick who was determined not to lose her family to those New Orleans streets so joining the United States Army was her only option.

I am that chick who realized that no matter what I did to save the family, it wasn’t good enough.

I am that chick that has that “woman’s intuition”.

I am that chick who decided that I didn’t sign up for adultery.

I am that chick who realized I would become a statistic.

I am that chick who relocated back to North Carolina to start a whole new life as a single parent.

I am that chick who was never angry because he chose someone else.

I am that chick who never kept the children away from their father or used them as a way of trying to get him back.

I am that chick who worked and cared for her two beautiful babies and thanked God every night for them.

I am that chick who accepted new jobs because the work hours and the pay were better than the one she had.

I am that chick who decided in 2006 that she would go back to school to get her degree and do it in three years.

I am that chick who graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2009 from Shaw University with a BS in Sociology/Criminal Justice.

I am that chick who decided that 2011 was her year to become a published author.

I am that chick who became a lover of her full-bred toy poodle, JoJo.

I am that chick who is the proud mother of those two beautiful babies.

I am that chick that’s proud that her son will be going off to the United States Navy and become a man.

I am that chick who is proud of her daughter that will graduate a whole year early.

I am that chick who loves God more than life itself.

I am that chick who strives to be a great MOTHER.

I am that chick who strives to be a great sister.

I am that chick who tries to be a good friend.

I am that chick who strives to be a good daughter, granddaughter, niece, and auntie.

I am that chick who can admit when she’s wrong and apologize.

I am that chick that has no reason to talk behind your back.

I am that chick who strives to be the best Sandra Evette Austin Brown I can Be!
